Welcome to Clarkston SCAMP!

Clarkston SCAMP is a five-week summer day program developed and designed for children and young adults with special needs covering a wide variety of both emotional and physical diagnoses.

The camp offers music and art therapy, field trips to a large variety of venues (movies, Clarkston Family Farm, Air Time Trampoline, 4H Fair, bowling, golfing, etc.), beach/boating days through Oakland County Parks and Recreation, gross motor activities and socialization with both their peers and within the community.

Although SCAMP is hosted in Clarkston, more than half of our campers come from out of district.  All are welcome to apply.  Financial aid is available for those in need and is provided by North Oakland SCAMP Funding Corporation (a 501c3 organization with a 20 -member volunteer board).  No one has ever been turned away for financial reasons. The Funding Corporation also allows us to keep our tuition costs low as we know that raising an individual with special needs is tremendously expensive.

In addition to fun for the SCAMPers, the camp offers a much needed respite for the parents and siblings of these individuals.  Knowing that their special one is well cared for, safe and having fun is a tremendous relief.  We have a very high camper to counselor ratio depending on the need of the camper.

The camp allows many young people to volunteer or work for the summer and has been a springboard for many of those pursuing careers in the special needs or health care fields. Lead teachers and adult aides are primarily school staff and are highly trained to deal with this population.
